13' X 20' X 4' Outdoor Splash Pool for Canines

K9 Pool Closed For 2011 - Will Reopen In May 2012

    Knowing the benefits of exercise - especially non-weight bearing exercise - for dogs, we have added a 13' x 20' X 4' K-9 swimming pool to Wagging Tail Doggie Day Care at 95 East 10th Street in Bloomsburg.

    We are making the pool available to the public to schedule swim sessions for their dogs. We provide life vests and an experienced person in the pool to assist the dogs. We are scheduling fifteen minute swims during some weekday lunch hours, some evenings, and most weekends for a fee.

    Our experienced staff takes great care in insuring that your dog has a pleasurable and safe experience in the pool. We take pride in customizing the swim sessions to fit your dog's individual needs and limitations. The actual swim time is determined by your dog's:

•  Age
•  Health
•  Breed (due to their body conformation some dog breeds like Grey Hound, Old English Bulldogges and brachycephalic breeds need special consideration and support)
•  Exercise tolerance
•  Physical stamina and activity level
•  Confidence
•  Prior experience to swimming
•  Vet recommendations

    Your dog will be fitted with a life vest to increase buoyancy and increase his/her level of confidence and safety. The life vest also gives our staff more handling control over your dog. Your dog will learn to locate and navigate the ramp and or steps safely. A variety of water toys will be available to entice your dog to fetch and play in the water.

    Your dog will be given frequent breaks on the ramp/stairs and porch to rest, catch his/her breath and re-assess the environment.

    If you bring your dog on a regular basis, his/her physical stamina, muscle tone, and confidence will improve. Actual swimming time during your 15 minute appointment will gradually increase and exercises like circles, figure 8's and resistance swimming will be added.

    Please ensure that your dog's nails are kept short to avoid tearing the liner of our pool and to avoid injuries to our staff's skin.

    Initial evaluation swimming session: $15 for up to 15 minutes. Your dog will be fitted with a canine life vest and assisted in the pool by our personnel - no exceptions.

    If we determine that your dog can go in the pool without assistance, then future swims will be $10 for up to 15 minutes. All assisted swims will be $15 for up to 15 minutes.

    Swimmers do not need to be candidates for doggie day care or dog training.

Dogs:

•  Need to be free of parasites and infectious diseases.
•  Need to be clean and nails need to be short.
•  Should not be human aggressive.
•  Will be fitted with one of our life vests unless we determine otherwise.

Owners:

•  Need to bring vaccination records (rabies) and towels to dry off their dog or dogs.
•  If in doubt, should discuss with their vet whether swimming is appropriate for their dog or dogs.
•  Make sure that their dog or dogs have eliminated before they swim.
•  Do not enter pool.

    Swims are for recreation only, not rehabilitation. We reserve the right to refuse, cut short or abort a swim for safety reasons, or if we feel that the physical or psychological stress outweighs the benefits of this activity for the dogs.
